Fringes of Sound Even with multiple listens through this EP, I was still able to pick out elements I hadn’t heard the first or second time. The sounds are incredibly well crafted and layered in such a way that it requires some intentioned listening in order to pick them apart. Favorite track: The Mimic.

about

Garth Bennett AKA ‘Jermainesoul’ is a Leeds-born, Birmingham based electronic producer, DJ and multi-instrumentalist. His style is a combination of elegant melodies laying on a bed of lush, ethereal soundscapes with rich orchestration; accompanied with hard-hitting bass lines and complex rhythms. Conformity has never been a path Jermainesoul wanted to follow. Constantly looking to experiment and step out of his sonic comfort zone to discover something special and unique. His varied style of composition is owed to the vast array of music he heard growing up. From Marvin Gaye and Alexander O’Neil to Beethoven and Brian Eno, there were no rules in the variety of music that flowed.

His new EP ‘Oneirism’ attempts to paint a picture of isolation and uncertainty amidst confusing and unpredictable times. All of the tracks were written whilst in lockdown and away from his usual creative space. Rather than focussing on the negatives, he used this as an opportunity to create something that represented his experience within the limitations he was now presented with. From the atmospheric and melancholy tone of ‘Evolution Paradox’ to the driving and compelling rhythms of ‘The Mimic’, ‘Oneirism’ merges a variety of styles and genres, taking the listener on a journey of contrasting moods and emotions, sonically blended together in typical Jermainesoul fashion.
